I can't find any information that gives the preferred diametral pitch.

 

Miscellaneous info from Internet:

SHAFTS: The model 6013 features a heat treated, splined shaft extensions. The pinion shaft extension is a 1 3/4" diameter, 20 tooth, 12/24 pitch, 30-degree pressure angle, flat-root side fit involute spline. The through shaft extension features a 2 1/4" diameter 10-B straight sided spline.

 Involute Spline Hobs These have straight-sided teeth like a gear hob, and are usually of stub-tool depth. They are made in single and multiple thread styles, with diametral pitches from 2.5/5 to 128/256 and pressure angles of 30º, 371/2º, 45º

Q: Where can I find SAE Standard Spline specifications/blueprints? (for shaft sizes 3/4 thru 1 1/2)?

Answer: ANSI B92.1-1996 - Involute Splines and Inspection, published by the Society of Automotive Engineers and ASME. Phone (412)776-4841. This standard is probably available in a good technical library at your university. Another good source is Machinery's Handbook, which has condensed the material from the ANSI standard.
