OTHER: Composite - Special Tool - Core Cutter

Perhaps this wire cutter machine should be forgotten and the work done on the router.

Consider having a special wire cutter heat that mounts on the end of the Z actuator. It might utilize a short 4-5" wire, be interchangeable with the winder head and the router heat. It will probably require the use of the X,Y, Z and A-axii.

Drawing:

This is an idea for a manual system, It consists of a milling head on a carriage and the carriage moves on two pre-shaped tracks. It will probably be more efficient to use a CNC hot wire system from below.

Notes:

Axes:

Only requires moving PRIMARILY on the X-axis. The Y-Z device could, initially be a manual adjustment on the cam follower track.

General Description

A level rigid working surface approximately 12" wide by 120" long.

Supporting and locating bars and/or clamps and/or vacuum devices to hold the honeycomb core rigidly in place.

A horizontal track 120" long running along the 2 sides of the table.

A carriage mounted on cam-followers which, in turn, are riding in these 2 tracks.

2 or 4 tracks on the carriage. these tracks run crossways to the above tracks. They are curved, in one plane, as templates so as to give the correct x-sectional shape to the spar core.

A Dremel or other machining devise is mounted in the second carraige.

Operation:

The combined carrages are cycled forward and back alont the 10 ft length of the jig table. The sanding drum is advance slightly from one edge of the spar to the other on each pass.

mounted on c

Concern:

Using the above method, the cross-section , in the Y-Z-plane, may have to be a constant at all locations on the X-axis. Maybe a proper 3-axis Router will be necessary.
